Our Mission
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Joseph’s parish is part of an international Catholic organization dedicated to serving those in need. Our mission is to grow in holiness through personal encounters with Christ in our neighbors as we feed, clothe, house, and heal individuals and families in our community. We strive to alleviate suffering, loneliness, and poverty while embracing the universality of the Catholic Church.
What We Do: Our Society responds to calls from neighbors in need. We conduct home visits to assess families’ situations and provide personalized assistance. We collaborate closely with other St. Vincent de Paul Conferences across Charleston to maximize our impact. Our initiatives include:
- Supporting the West Ashley High School Pantry, ensuring students have access to essential nutrition.
- Operating a food pantry for families in need on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month.
- Organizing the annual St. Joseph food drive in October, which helps provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to 75 local families.
- Providing grants for utilities and housing on a case by case bases.
Through these efforts, we strive to offer both immediate relief and long-term support to those experiencing hardship in our community. There are a variety of roles that one can take in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. All acts of charity are meaningful.
Where/When: Information is communicated regarding Where/When activities will occur.
Meetings: Our meetings are the 4th Saturday of the month. Please reach out to the Primary Contact for additional information.
