ADULT MINISTRY

Our Mission

Inspired by the wisdom and guidance of the Holy See, the USCCB, and the Diocese of Charleston, we promote the spiritual growth and faith development of adults, so they may embody lives rooted in Jesus Christ, that call each of them to holiness, community, and service.

In doing this, we embrace the following truths:

  • Adults have a right and duty to bring to maturity the seed of faith sown in them by God.
  • Conversion of faith is a life-long journey led by the Holy Spirit.
  • Fostering active membership in the Christian community is a Biblical message.
  • All are called by Christ to live and act as disciples in mission to the world.

What We Do: Provide opportunities for prayer, study, and community connection which focus on adult spiritual growth, discipleship, service, and evangelization.  Activities include, Bible studies, prayer groups, discussion groups, missions, workshops, retreats, liturgically themed programs, and online resources for self-guided study.

Where/When: We strive to offer opportunities at various times of the day, both on and off campus, in order to accommodate the diverse stages of adult life.

What We Need: Individuals interested in facilitating studies, programs, groups, etc.  Adult Ministry is successful only if there are those willing to facilitate and serve others.  What does this look like? Volunteers willing to discern the call, attend simple training, and be commissioned by the pastor.

In keeping with the diocesan Via Fidelis 2026 theme of Catechesis: Understanding the Faith, our parish will be diving into the Nicene Creed during Lent.  To effectively evangelize to the world, we need to understand exactly what we believe.  We will be reading the book What Christians Believe by Bishop Robert Barron.  He will walk us through the Creed line by line as he explains this statement of faith that has guided Christian thought for over 1700 years.  Free books are available for parishioners to take home, read, and keep as reference. Follow the reading plan and look for study questions in the bulletin and in Flocknote.
*As a companion to this Lenten reading challenge, there will be 3 in-person group sessions where supplemental resources and videos by Bishop Barron will enhance your experience and help answer crucial questions.  Join us in the Family Life Center Library!  Email adultministry@saintjosephchas.com for more information.
